Quirks
Everyone has something about them that sets them apart and defines them in the minds of others. That is your character’s Quirk. A quirk should help to place your character within the narrative, as well as provide the necessary motivation to help them reach their goals. Perhaps more than any other attribute, a character’s quirk informs that character’s personality.
Your character’s quirk grants them level 1 abilities, which may include abilities with obvious downsides. However, almost every quirk is balanced in order to be a net positive.
Some classes and specialisations may be excluded from being selected at the same time as certain quirks—usually because the class or specialisation overlaps with the quirk’s capabilities in some way.
Custom Quirks
If you find that none of the listed quirks fit your character, you may work with the game master (GM) to create a custom quirk. The easiest way to create your own quirk is to select any two skills or level 1 abilities, and then find the best word to describe the combination. You could also select any number of skills or abilities, as long as the quirk comes out with some semblance of balance—unless you and the GM agree that it isn’t necessary.
Changing Quirks
You can change your character’s quirk at any time, though you should only do so within reason and after discussing the change with the GM. A change in a character’s quirk represents a fundamental change in their personality. For example, a once fearless character may become cowardly after a particularly harrowing event. Changing your character’s quirk doesn’t always have to be so drastic, but it should feel like a core defining trait of your character has changed forever. If you do choose to change quirks during your character’s journey, they lose all the abilities from their previous quirk, but keep any XP gained through the old quirk.
