Ability Selections

Immortal Freedom RPG > Character Creation

Once you have selected your character’s species, class, quirk, and specialisation, you may notice that you are asked to choose from a selection of abilities. These abilities represent a choice you have to make based on what your character would naturally choose as part of their life’s journey. You immediately benefit from your choice once selected. Unless allowed by the GM, you cannot select another option once you've made your choice.

Additionally, some of the abilities you have acquired may be skills which are described as being (of your choice). In these cases, you may select any skill from the skills list—as long as it matches the type of skill listed. For example, you may be asked to select a physical skill, in which case you may select a skill for your character of the physical type your character doesn’t already have. If no skill type is listed, you may select any skill from the list of skills ,as long as your character doesn’t already have that skill.

Some abilities may also be listed as legendary items or legendary cyberware and described as being (of your choice). Select from the list of predefined legendary items and legendary cyberware, or work with the GM to create a legendary item or legendary cyberware appropriate for your character and the level at which it is acquired.

When you acquire a companion via your class, quirk, or specialisation, the type of entity and some other stipulations may be provided in the companion’s description, but you must ultimately decide what your companion looks like. You may also allow the GM to determine some things—or everything—about your companion.

Character companions can be configured however you wish, including their appearance, species, and capabilities. The character must feasibly be able to exist within the Era in which you are playing, but has few other restrictions—they could even be a spirit remnant, virtual intelligence (VI), or artificial intelligence (AI) in the right circumstances. Keep in mind that character companions are not player characters. They may have magical capabilities, or have a tendency to be physically strong or technically apt, but they do not have classes, quirks, or specialisations in the mechanical sense.
