Nox’zh’r Apocalypse

Immortal Freedom > Timeline > Fourth Era

The residents of the star cluster were caught by surprise in 442 when black, viscous fluid enveloped nearly half of the population, turning them into eldritch abominations which attacked others on sight and infected them with the same curse. Those who weren’t infected could do little else but run for their lives as the world ended around them.

The Nox’zh’r Apocalypse occurred in waves, coinciding with the appearance of the Worldbreaker throughout the star cluster. It ended the same year when mercenaries destroyed the Worldbreaker and cleansed the Nox’zh’r from Erelon. But the cost was great. The majority of the Worldbreaker crashed into Erelon, causing a cataclysm which would devastate the planet for decades to come.

The star cluster was devastated in the aftermath. Countless had fallen to the Nox’zh’r and the survivors were forever traumatised by the event.

442

The Worldbreaker appears in orbit around Erelon, no longer a space station, but a massive Command-class starship helmed by Nox’zh’r agents and infected by a large mass of Nox’zh’r lluw. The presence of the large mass in orbit is immediate, as the inhabitants of Erelon infected with Nox’zh’r lluw turn into eldritch abominations. Those that aren’t infected soon find themselves under assault by these abominations and horrifically killed—or infected themselves.

The Cult of the Nox’zh’r enacts a violent coup of A’aena Edhil as its residents grapple with the Nox’zh’r Apocalypse. They take over the city, forcing its residents to capitulate and forcibly infecting thousands with Nox’zh’r lluw.

As the inhabitants of Erelon deal with the beginning of the Nox’zh’r Apocalypse, the Worldbreaker assaults and destroys the Harbour, in orbit around Erelon.

The Worldbreaker travels to Plumeth and lays siege to the Coalition of Planets Headquarters in high orbit around the planet. Like other world visited by the Worldbreaker, the non-infected residents of Plumeth are assailed by eldritch abominations, who were once their loved ones and neighbours infected with Nox’zh’r lluw.

The Worldbreaker returns to Erelon to allow Nox’zh’r agents aboard to travel to the surface to help Ress’jh in its attempt to infect the Æther. The Worldbreaker moves on to other worlds in the star cluster to continue the Nox’zh’r Apocalypse as its agents do their work.

Nox’zh’r agents and Ress’jh on Erelon succeed in infecting the Æther. The inhabitants of Erelon experience a new level of horror as the very fabric of reality is infected by the Nox’zh’r. Ethamil falls into a coma, as do a great majority of those sensitive to magic on Erelon.

Mercenaries go to Erelon to cleanse the Nox’zh’r from the Æther and wake Ethamil from her coma. They succeed in removing the infection from the Æther and stopping the Nox’zh’r’s agents on the planet. Ethamil wakes from her coma and aids in efforts to stop the Nox’zh’r Apocalypse.

The majority of the Worldbreaker crashes into Erelon. Its impact triggers catastrophic seismic activity and spawns megatsunamis that scour the seas of Erelon. The skies fill with clouds of hot dust, ash, and steam. Material re-enters Erelon’s atmosphere after leaving orbit, and vaporises upon re-entry, igniting wildfires across the planet. Intense and chaotic weather events cover the globe, from acid rain to category five hurricanes. Almost all Erelen, Aeyen, and K’ohma on Erelon are killed, and all life on Erelon faces extinction.

A’aena Edhil is at the centre of the Worldbreaker’s impact onto Erelon. The Nox’zh’r lluw onboard the doomed starship was attracted to the Nox’zh’r mass Ress’jh, which is situated under Ell Caelora. The city is obliterated and all of its residents are killed in an instant.

The two masses of Nox’zh’r merge together in the ruins of A’aena Edhil, deep in the waters of Ell Caelora. In the chaos of their union, the new, impossible large Nox’zh’r mass converts the energy from the Worldbreaker’s engines to fire an immense energy beam at the mercenary starship which destroyed the Worldbreaker. The attack is unsuccessful, and a beam of Divine magic from the mercenary starship cleanses the Nox’zh’r mass from Erelon.

The remaining Nox’zh’r masses quietly return to their slumber. Nox’zh’r abominations all around the star cluster wither and die, unable to keep their forms without the Nox’zh’r’s influence. The Kataal slither back into the depths from which they came, or flee back to the Unôd solar system. The Nox’zh’r Apocalypse is over.
