Mongoose

Immortal Freedom RPG > Non-player Entities (NPCs) > Animals

A mongoose is a terrestrial carnivorous mammal which has a long face and body, small, rounded ears, short legs, and a long, tapering tail. Most species are brindled or grizzled, while some have strongly marked coats that resemble those of mustelids. Their markings consist of dark legs, stripes, and pale ringed tails. They have narrow, oval pupils and nonretractile claws. Mongoose diets are varied but consist of mainly insects, rodents, reptiles, and birds.[1]

Animals do not generally attack unprovoked. They only engage in combat if:

  • They feel threatened,
  • They’re defending their young or territory,
  • They’re desperately hungry,
  • They’re confused, or,
  • They’re diseased or in pain.

Most animals avoid conflict, preferring survival to undue violence. Animals only fight to the death if they’re protecting something or they’re cornered. Otherwise, they flee at the first sign of hostility. Predators usually fight until they’re unstable, at which point they retreat.
