Calugo

Immortal Freedom RPG > Non-player Entities (NPCs) > Animals

Colugos are arboreal gliding mammals with long, slender front and rear limbs, a medium-length tail, and a relatively light build. Their head is small, with large, front-focused eyes for excellent binocular vision, and small rounded ears. Colugos are proficient gliders, and they can travel as far as 70 m (230 ft) without losing much altitude. Their ability to glide is possible because of a large membrane of skin that extends between their paired limbs. This gliding membrane, or patagium, runs from the shoulder blades to the fore paws, from the tip of the rear-most fingers to the tip of the toes, and from the hind legs to the tip of the tail.[1]

Animals do not generally attack unprovoked. They only engage in combat if:

  • They feel threatened,
  • They’re defending their young or territory,
  • They’re desperately hungry,
  • They’re confused, or,
  • They’re diseased or in pain.

Most animals avoid conflict, preferring survival to undue violence. Animals only fight to the death if they’re protecting something or they’re cornered. Otherwise, they flee at the first sign of hostility. Predators usually fight until they’re unstable, at which point they retreat.
