A’aena Edhil

Immortal Freedom > Artilum Tem > Star Cluster > Tyrir > Erelon > Ell Caelora

A’aena Edhil is an aeyan city-state built over Ell Caelora, the largest lake on Erelon. It is the primary home for aeyen on Erelon, and is the seat of power for the Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil. A’aena Edhil floats on the surface of the lake thanks to crystal technology, submerged below the surface of the lake. Numerous, immense anchors keep A’aena Edhil in place, though it is known to sway during storms and other intense weather events.

A’aena Edhil is organized into districts loosely based around the Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil which lay claim to each district. There are also districts in between for commercial ventures and low-caste residential housing. Industrial manufacturing and factories are kept outside A’aena Edhil, on the shores of Ell Caelora. Most of A’aena Edhil is traversed by foot or small boat, thanks to an extensive network of footpaths and canals.

History

14,561 BC

A large erelen settlement near Ell Caelora is targeted by the Vassu, due to the presence of the Nox’zh’r mass Ress’jh below the surface of the lake. The settlement is quite large for such a primitive species, thanks in part to Ethamil’s influence. A number of erelen flee their annihilation and make their way underground, into a series of cave systems near the lake. Ress’jh’s influence grows stronger the deeper they go.

11,000 BC

Aeyen emerge from a series of cave systems near Ell Caelora—the ancestors of the erelen who fled the Vassu genocide around 3,000 years prior. Millennia in the dark and in proximity to the Nox’zh’r mass Ress’jh had taken their toll on the erelen. They had lost their commissures and their skin was now pale and pink. Their overall stature had shrunk, and they were now generally shorter than their erelen kin. Life underground had also reduced their overall muscle mass and diminished their lifespans. Ress’jh had also augmented the paranoia, confusion, and fears of the proto-aeyen, making it so very few remembered their shared history with erelen upon leaving the cave systems.

Aeyen rebuild their civilization on the ruins of a settlement on the shores of Ell Caelora, abandoned by their erelen ancestors around 3,000 years prior. The settlement is christened A’aena Edhil, and the aeyen settlers establish the Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil as a way to organize their society and bring order to their rapidly growing civilization.

During their time in the caverns below Ell Caelora, the aeyen had been influenced by the presence of the Nox’zh’r mass Ress’jh. While no longer underground, many aeyen continue to be influenced by Ress’jh, with a non-insignificant number of aeyen being part of a small cell of the Cult of the Nox’zh’r. Because of their history with the Nox’zh’r and their incurable aeyan curiosity, the leaders of the Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil are openly tolerant of the Cult of the Nox’zh’r, insofar as to allowing them to operate as a clandestine, secret society behind closed doors in A’aena Edhil.

The appearance of aeyen catches the Erelan Empire by surprise, as the aeyen, A’aena Edhil, and the Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil seemingly came into existence out of nowhere—a fully-fledged species and civilization suddenly living on the shores of Ell Caelora. While their relationship with erelen had been lost to history, aeyen felt a kinship with erelen, and the two species soon learned to coexist.

5388 BC

Erelen and aeyen explorers falls upon a group of kataal on Hosgun during a deep space exploration mission to Unôd. Only a few members of the expedition survive the encounter. Upon their return to Erelon, the survivors omit many details of their encounter, in the hopes that no one will venture out to Unôd again. The falsified report is entered into the archives of both the Erelan Empire and the Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil, and the solar system is promptly regulated to history.

26 years after first contact between the Terran Republic and the Erelan Empire, the Coalition of Planets is formed, marking the beginning of the Age of Cooperation and of a new calendar, starting at year 0. The Coalition of Planets is primarily a terran initiative, and is made up of the Terran Republic, the Erelan Empire, and the T’av Collective. The Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil and ador are also members through the Erelan Empire. The primary purpose of the Coalition of Planets is to deliberate on decisions which affect all nations and people within the Coalition of Planets, while also encouraging trade and communication between nations.

The Erelan Empire and the Ruling Houses of A’aena Edhil partner with the Terran Republic to form the Psionic Education and Regulation League—an organization dedicated to the training and regulation of magic users, specifically terran recondites, who had proven to be a problem for all the nations in the star cluster over the last century.

The Nox’zh’r Apocalypse ravages the residents of A’aena Edhil.

The Cult of the Nox’zh’r enacts a violent coup of A’aena Edhil as its residents grapple with the Nox’zh’r Apocalypse. They take over the city, forcing its residents to capitulate and forcibly infecting thousands with Nox’zh’r lluw.

The majority of the Worldbreaker crashes into Erelon. Its impact triggers catastrophic seismic activity and spawns megatsunamis that scour the seas of Erelon. The skies fill with clouds of hot dust, ash, and steam. Material re-enters Erelon’s atmosphere after leaving orbit, and vaporises upon re-entry, igniting wildfires across the planet. Intense and chaotic weather events cover the globe, from acid rain to deadly hurricanes. Almost all erelen, aeyen, and k’ohma on Erelon are killed, and all life on Erelon faces extinction.

A’aena Edhil is at the centre of the Worldbreaker’s impact onto Erelon. The Nox’zh’r lluw onboard the doomed starship was attracted to the Nox’zh’r mass Ress’jh, which is situated under Ell Caelora. The city is obliterated and all of its residents are killed in an instant.

The two masses of Nox’zh’r merge together in the ruins of A’aena Edhil, deep in the waters of Ell Caelora. In the chaos of their union, the new, impossible large Nox’zh’r mass converts the energy from the Worldbreaker’s engines to fire an immense energy beam at the mercenary starship which had destroyed the Worldbreaker. The attack is unsuccessful, and a beam of divine magic from the mercenary starship cleanses the Nox’zh’r mass from Erelon.
