Languages

Immortal Freedom RPG > Character Creation

Every person you meet in the world is speaking either their native language or another language they learned out of necessity. There is no universal common language. Technological translators replace the need to learn multiple languages for most people, though some do pick up another language or two in their journey through life.

You are unable to speak with anyone who speaks a language you don’t understand. Simple, non-verbal communication is still possible, but you would be unable to convey complex information or perform any abilities which require your target to understand you. These restrictions also apply when interacting with your fellow player characters, though you may decide in Session 0 to ignore these restrictions.

You can speak as many languages as you want. However, try to select the languages you can speak based on your character’s life experiences, rather than what would be the most convenient during gameplay. You may also choose to include a translator as part of your starting inventory.

You are also unable to speak the language of any alien species which are introduced in the same era as when you begin playing—unless you are that alien species.

If you don’t want to select any languages, assume your character can only speak their species’ native languages.
