Cyberware and Disability
Cyberware is not a way to cure physical or mental disabilities. People with physical forms or modes of thinking which don’t fit the norm are disabled by society for being different. It is not something one should feel the need to cure. If you choose to give your character cyberware, you should be doing so because it is narratively interesting, and not because your character would be otherwise disabled. You can, however, use cyberware as a prosthetic or mobility aid—as long as you are not making your character’s disability completely irrelevant and effectively erasing the lived experience of people with disabilities.
Your character suffers from monochromacy. You install cyberoptics which allow you to see the world in full colour. However, it’s unclear whether you see the same colours as others or if your visual resolution is lower than if you had kept your biological eyes. The cybernetic eyes can also be hacked, damaged, or deactivated. In this way, you still have the lived experience of someone with monochromacy (difficulty navigating physical spaces), even if the initial condition is bypassed (unable to see colour).
