Environment Suit
An Environment Suit is a specialised, technologically advanced suit used for protection from the harsh environment of outer space and the surface of inhabitable worlds. Environment suits protect their users from:
- The vacuum of space,
- Extreme temperatures,
- Extreme pressures,
- Micro debris, and
- Radiation.
Environment suits also provide their users with a healthy supply of breathable air, thanks to an onboard life support system.
Environment suits are required in low pressure environments above the Armstrong limit, and when making landfall on low gravity worlds, or worlds without a breathable atmosphere. Environment suits have a complex system of equipment and environmental systems designed to keep the wearer comfortable, and to minimize the effort required to bend the limbs, resisting a soft pressure garment’s natural tendency to stiffen against the vacuum. A self-contained oxygen supply and environmental control system is frequently employed to allow complete freedom of movement, independent of a starship or shuttle.[1]
Most environment suits also come with small thrusters, allowing the user to make micro adjustments to their orientation while in zero gravity.
