Crossbow Bolts
A bolt is a dart-like projectile used by crossbows. Although their lengths vary, bolts are typically shorter and heavier than traditional arrows shot with longbows.[1]
Crossbows require bolts in order to be effective—unless they’re energy crossbows. A player character may choose to run out of bolts whenever they get drawbacks, necessitating that more bolts be crafted or acquired before their crossbow can be used again. Similarly, whenever the player character gets complications, the game master (GM) may cause them to run out of bolts.
