Dice Numbers

Immortal Freedom RPG > Character Creation

Your character’s Dice Numbers represent how they perceive the world, as well as their strengths and weaknesses when performing actions. Your character’s dice numbers are how you will measure their success whenever they do anything, and so determine how you interact with the world. Your character has 2 distinct numbers, each on their own separate dice scale.

Emotion and Logic

Select a number from 2 to 5. This is your character’s Emotion/Logic number.

Emotion is how people extract meaning from the world using intuition, reflex and primaeval instinct. Melee combat, diplomacy and wild, passionate action rely on emotion in order to be successful.

Logic is how people attempt to make sense of the world and is fuelled by reasoning, rationality and precision. Ranged attacks, science and precise, deliberate action rely on logic in order to be successful.

Your character’s affinity for either Emotion or Logic lies on a spectrum representing the middle numbers of a 6-sided die (1d6). The higher the number, the better your character is at Logic. The lower the number, the better they are at Emotion.

Example

Your character’s Emotion/Logic number is 3. As such, they will be successful at performing an Emotion action if you roll 3, 4, 5, or 6, but will only be successful at performing a Logic action if you roll 1, 2, or 3.

Magic and Tech

Select a number from 2 to 7. This is your character’s Magic/Tech number.

Magic is an individual’s ability to comprehend and effectively control any magical powers they may have. Strength in magic means more consistent and competent magic use.

Tech is an individual’s ability to make the most of advanced technology. Computers, starships, the NET, and most widely available weapons rely on technological aptitude to operate.

Your character’s affinity for either Magic or Tech lies on a spectrum representing the middle numbers of an 8-sided die (1d8). The higher the number, the better your character is at Tech. The lower the number, the better they are at magic.

Example

Your character’s Magic/Tech number is 3. As such, they will be successful at performing a Magic action if you roll 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8, but will only be successful at performing a Tech action if you roll 1, 2, or 3.

If you’d like fate to decide your Emotion/Logic dice number, roll 2d6. Select the highest number if your class, quirk, and specialisation favour Logic. Select the lowest number if your class, quirk, and specialisation favour Emotion. Re-roll if you get a 1 or a 6.
