Grethian Civil War

Immortal Freedom > Timeline > Second Era

In 410, Grethian leadership announced their plans to build the Palisade over the Grethian capital city of Lurxburg, as way to protect the city from future threats like the Megor. This was the spark that would lead to the Grethian Civil War, a conflict between the elite of Lurxburg and those living outside the Palisade which would last for 32 years. The civil war lasted so long that it crossed three different eras, and lasted far beyond the completion of the Palisade. The civil war only ended when the Palisade was breached by the Hold in 442, effectively putting an end to old blood feuds.

410

Grethian leadership announces the construction of the Palisade around the Greth capital city of Lurxburg. They would be funding the construction of a massive, dome-shaped structure which would physically repel any and all external threats. The Palisade would be Greth’s strongest defence against future threats like the Megor. However, the Palisade would only protect a portion of Lurxburg, dividing the city as well as its people.

There is immediate and explosive outrage from the people of Greth at the thought that the planet’s resources would be spent in such a manner. Protests break out, made up of people who can’t afford to move into Lurxburg as well as those who have financial interests which would not be protected by the Palisade. This was the beginning of the Grethian Civil War, though it isn’t evident at this time that the protests would evolve into an all out war between the Lurxburg elite and the rest of Greth.

420

The construction of the Palisade on Greth is completed—with much fanfare for its residents, and in spite of violent protests for those without a way inside. Access to and from the Palisade is limited to necessary trade and emergencies as those within are all but cut off from the outside world.
