Terran Republic
Immortal Freedom > Organisations > Nations
The Terran Republic is a federal republic[1], meaning that independent states within the Terran Republic are governed independently of a primary, federal level of government, whose seat of power resides on Plumeth. Each state loosely encompasses the planetary system wherein the seat of power for that state resides. Planetary system states are subdivided based on population numbers, territory and the particular political structure of each state. The state government for each state has full control over major decisions which affect the state, but delegates decisions down to sector and subdivision governments as necessary.
The federal government is concerned primarily with:
- Security and defence
- Monetary policies
- Interstellar and international relations
- Border disputes
- Trade regulations
- Interplanetary travel
Political representatives for each level of government are democratically elected into office by the residents of the government’s region. For example, a resident of Greth can vote for their state’s governor and for the Terran Republic’s executive chairman, but could not vote for the governor of Duereth (unless they had simultaneous residency).
While every state within the Terran Republic follows this general structure, each state is also free to modify the structure, as long as each state is represented by a political representative. War and circumstance have changed how some states appoint their heads of state, from nomination to dynastic agreements. Terms for political representatives also vary by state.
Organisational Hierarchy
From around 400 BC up until 447, the Terran Republic was led by an executive chairman. Following the formation of the Coalition of Planets in year 0, the executive chairman also acted as the Terran Republic’s representative for the Coalition of Planets. All other positions of leadership evolved as the Terran Republic grew in size, colonised new worlds and engaged in conflicts.
The following table lists the different types of state officials in order of authority, as well as:
- Their term limits,
- Their methods of appointment, and
- The number in office at any one time.
During states of emergency, such as wartime or active conflict, the Terran Republic may enact martial law and temporarily appoint military officers to govern its holdings. Democratic leaders are reinstated once the state of emergency has passed.

Military
The Terran Republic has always had a militant force in the shape of the Dragoon Corps on Plumeth, and other peacekeeping forces throughout Terran Republic space. However, it didn’t have an organised military for the first seven hundred years of its existence.
Even as the Terran Republic expanded to cover the entirety of the Xaia solar system and most of the Huk’Va solar system in the First Era, Terran military force was lean and agile, composed mostly of individual marshals and their deputies, who did their best to keep the peace. Their primary concern was the growing number of raiders and space pirates, which increased in number each year. The Terran Republic didn’t see much need in having an organised military when relations with the other members of the Coalition of Planets was so cordial.
It would take the First Megor Invasion for the Terran Republic to finally organise a true military. From the Second Megor Invasion onward, the Terran Republic would consistently have the strongest and most effective military in the star cluster.
Ranks
Ranks in the Terran Republic’s military are universal across all disciplines, from ground soldiers and starship crew, to secret service agents and administrative staff. Members of the Terran Republic military do not need to be Terran—though the majority are, especially in higher ranks. Economy
The Terran Republic has the most complex economy of all nations in the star cluster. It is the Terran Republic which first implemented credits as a currency, which is managed by the Traders and Commerce Guild. Credits allow Terrans to trade almost instantaneously across vast distances, rather than relying on the trade and barter of goods, which is how the Erelan Empire and T’avian Collective previously engaged in trade before the formation of the Coalition of Planets.
Individual social worth is deeply intertwined with economic worth in the Terran Republic. Individuals with a higher net worth are generally well regarded in society, while those without means are considered immoral and worthless. Terrans in the Terran Republic see credits as the only real way to find happiness and success in life.
Following the First Megor Invasion, the Terran Republic had its first economic competitors in the form of Zao trade cartels, which rivalled the Terran Republic in their pursuit for credits while seeing no need to comply with the Traders and Commerce Guild’s regulations—unless it benefits them directly.
Plumeth City is also home to an interstellar stock exchange market, housed on the NET, wherein corporations and people exchange credits in hopes of accruing wealth.
